Our Story...

We are Bruce and Janine Coker.  We are originally from Michigan, United States. We have been serving in ministry for over 38 years. We were very involved in our local church in the United States and were involved in church planting in the US as well.

In 2010, Bruce received the call to go into missions and to Pastor. Bruce returned to College and received a Bachelor’s degree in Ministry and Leadership. Shortly after graduation, Bruce was licensed to preach and pastor through the Evangelical Free Church of America.

God then sent us to Uganda, Africa for 3 years as missionaries, teaching the Bible and sustainable skills to both men and women. Bruce preached and trained pastors in the village of Naigobya, Uganda. Janine trained women in sustainable skills along with the Bible.  We were able to build a school in the village of Naigobya, that taught 350 kids, through the financial help of our supporting churches, friends and families. The project was successful and ready to be led by locals.

In 2017 God led us to continue missionary work, but now to the Dominican Republic.  The Journey International Church was started in 2018 in Costambar, Puerto Plata and was instrumental in bringing a Bilingual Church to the area. The church was doing well and growing.   In mid-May, of 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic forced a 2-year delay, as we temporarily closed and returned to Michigan. The Journey re-opened again in 2022, but this time just outside of Costambar in the community of Cafemba.

Our goal of Journey International Church is to share the love of Jesus, and minister to the surrounding communities of Cafemba. This is accomplished thru coming along side those in this multicultural community through outreach, care, leading them into a relationship with Jesus Christ, and to make disciple makers.
